A hearty and creamy casserole inspired by John Wayne, featuring layers of meat, cheese, and vegetables for a satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground pork
- 1 onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 package (30 oz) frozen shredded hash browns
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Brown ground beef and pork in a skillet over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet. Cook until softened.
- Stir in cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup, sour cream, salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Spread half of the hash browns in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer half of the meat mixture over the hash browns, followed by half of the cheese.
- Repeat layers with remaining hash browns, meat mixture, and cheese.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown.
- Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey for a leaner option.
- For extra flavor, add a dash of hot sauce or Worcestershire sauce.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
