Description
A simple and healthy 100% whole wheat bread recipe that’s perfect for sandwiches or toast.
Ingredients
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Dissolve honey in warm water, then sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Mix flour and salt in a large bowl. Add yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Knead dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool before slicing.
Notes
- Store bread in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- For best results, use fresh whole wheat flour.
- You can substitute honey with maple syrup if preferred.
