A healthy twist on classic French dip sandwiches using baked biscuits for a lighter meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 3/4 cup low-fat milk
  • 1 lb lean beef roast, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 4 slices low-fat provolone cheese


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F.
  2. Mix flours, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Add olive oil and milk, stir until dough forms.
  4. Drop dough onto baking sheet in 6 equal portions.
  5. Bake 12-15 minutes until golden.
  6. Cook beef and onions in a skillet over medium heat for 5 minutes.
  7. Add broth, garlic powder, and thyme. Simmer 10 minutes.
  8. Split biscuits, add beef mixture and top with cheese.
  9. Broil 1-2 minutes until cheese melts.
  10. Serve with remaining broth for dipping.
