Description
A healthy twist on classic French dip sandwiches using baked biscuits for a lighter meal.
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 3/4 cup low-fat milk
- 1 lb lean beef roast, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 4 slices low-fat provolone cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F.
- Mix flours, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- Add olive oil and milk, stir until dough forms.
- Drop dough onto baking sheet in 6 equal portions.
- Bake 12-15 minutes until golden.
- Cook beef and onions in a skillet over medium heat for 5 minutes.
- Add broth, garlic powder, and thyme. Simmer 10 minutes.
- Split biscuits, add beef mixture and top with cheese.
- Broil 1-2 minutes until cheese melts.
- Serve with remaining broth for dipping.
Notes
- Use a sharp knife for thin beef slices.
- Store leftovers in airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Substitute chicken for beef if preferred.
