Description
A healthy twist on pizza casserole made in a crockpot with wholesome ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground turkey
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup whole wheat pasta, uncooked
Instructions
- Brown the ground turkey in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add onion, garlic, bell pepper, and mushrooms. Cook until softened.
- Transfer the mixture to the crockpot.
- Stir in tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Add uncooked pasta and mix well.
- Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Cover and cook on low for 4 hours.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey with ground chicken.
- Add more vegetables like zucchini or spinach if desired.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
