Description
A hearty and healthy grilled cheese sandwich with roasted mushrooms, caramelized onions, and melted Gouda cheese.
Ingredients
- 2 slices whole-grain bread
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1/4 cup thinly sliced onions
- 1/2 cup grated Gouda cheese
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat a skillet over medium heat.
- Sauté mushrooms and onions in olive oil until caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Season with thyme, salt, and pepper.
- Spread Gouda cheese on one slice of bread.
- Top with the mushroom and onion mixture.
- Place the second slice of bread on top.
- Grill the sandwich on the skillet until golden brown and the cheese melts, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Notes
- Use butter or cooking spray for extra crispiness.
- Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for heat.
- Substitute Swiss or cheddar cheese if preferred.
