Description
A hearty Italian sausage and pepper casserole that’s easy to prepare and packed with flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Italian sausage (sweet or hot)
- 2 bell peppers (red and green), sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add sausage and cook until browned, breaking it into pieces.
- Remove sausage and set aside.
- In the same skillet, sauté peppers, onion, and garlic until softened.
- Add diced tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Stir in cooked sausage.
- Transfer mixture to a baking dish and top with mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- Use fresh herbs if available for better flavor.
- Adjust spice level by choosing mild or hot sausage.
- Serve with crusty bread or over pasta.
