Description

A classic lasagna recipe inspired by Maggiano’s, featuring layers of pasta, rich meat sauce, and creamy cheese.


Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 15 oz tomato sauce
  • 6 oz tomato paste
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 16 oz ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  3. Brown ground beef and Italian sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
  4. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, salt, pepper, basil, and oregano. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and parsley until combined.
  6. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  7. Layer 3 lasagna noodles, 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, 1/3 of the meat sauce, and 1 cup mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers twice.
  8. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese on top.
  9. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 25 minutes.
  10. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, replace meat with mushrooms and spinach.
  • Lasagna can be assembled ahead and refrigerated overnight before baking.
  • Freeze leftovers for up to 3 months.
