A hearty and comforting dish that layers cabbage, ground beef, rice, and tomato sauce for a simplified take on traditional stuffed cabbage rolls.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 medium head cabbage, chopped
- 1 cup uncooked rice
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 oz tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté onion and garlic until soft.
- Add ground beef, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned.
- Stir in uncooked rice and 1 cup tomato sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Layer half the chopped cabbage in a greased baking dish.
- Spread the beef mixture evenly over the cabbage.
- Top with remaining cabbage and pour remaining tomato sauce over it.
- Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour.
- Remove foil and bake for 15 more minutes.
- Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef for less grease.
- Replace rice with cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.
- Freezes well for up to 3 months.
