Description
A savory Swiss mushroom melt with caramelized onions and melted cheese on toasted bread.
Ingredients
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
- 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add onions and cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
- Add mushrooms, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Butter one side of each bread slice.
- Place bread butter-side down in a skillet over medium heat.
- Layer Swiss cheese, mushroom mixture, and another slice of cheese on two bread slices.
- Top with remaining bread slices, butter-side up.
- Cook until golden brown, then flip and cook the other side.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- Use Gruyère cheese for a stronger flavor.
- Add a pinch of thyme for extra aroma.
- Toast bread lightly before assembling for extra crunch.
