Description

A nutritious and flavorful Indian-style lentil dal bowl packed with protein and spices.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup red lentils
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 tbsp cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste


Instructions

  1. Rinse lentils thoroughly and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pot and add cumin seeds.
  3. Add onions and sauté until golden.
  4. Add garlic and ginger, cook for 1 minute.
  5. Stir in tomatoes and spices, cook until soft.
  6. Add lentils and water, bring to a boil.
  7. Simmer for 25 minutes until lentils are tender.
  8. Garnish with cilantro and serve hot.

Notes

  • Soak lentils for 30 minutes to reduce cooking time.
